Hi guys, I need your help again.

I have this page that has very good rankings for the 5 keywords in its title tag and combinations of these keyowords. However I want to add more keywords (6 more) to the title tag, I optimized the content for these keywords.

What do you think will happen?

1.Will my rankings drop for the current keywords? Do you believe in the dilution story?

2. Although I got thousands of backlinks to this page, most of the traffic comes from the 5 keywords searches and combs of these keywords. To me these proves once again that page title is the no1 SEO factor. Do you think adding more keywords will help?

Thanks alot,
Adrian

The title element is one of the few places where you have the opportunity to tell your visitors and the search engines exactly what the page is supposed to be about. From an SEO point of view it's all about focus.

I'm not sure how you can have a page optimized for 5 keywords, then say you added 6 more and optimized the content. In my own work I think that optimizing a page for 11 keywords would border on the impossible. While you can, and should, use related and supporting words in your copy to bolster your main keyword phrase, to consider each as a targeted keyword would lead to overall dilution and be self defeating in the long run.

If done properly this should help your rankings but there is always a chance the engines will see the page as over optimized. Being over optimized could cause your rankings to fall. I would save a copy of the current page just so that in the event you loose ranking you could replace the new page with the current high ranking page. I hope that helps and good luck! Please keep us posted as to the result.

IMO you are better adding a new page with a focus on your new keywords. Don't change your current page if it is performing well.

Great advice if this is an option!

Thank you all but let me rephrase my question:

I need to change my title tag, I think this will raise my CTR. So I have a 6 words title tag, I'm planning to add 3 more words (the first 6 words will stay the same).

The content will stay the same for now.

This is a heavy linked page (4-5000 backlinks). I'm ranking very well for the first two words on my title tag, I just need higher CTR.

Do you think my rankings will stay the same if I add three more words?
