Why does Google hate me?

Hi all,
I was helping run a small website showmoreinfo.com, which used to have a PR of about 4 or 5 and was doing ok.

Then we added AdSense to the pages and for the last few months we've completely dropped out of Google, and now our PR has disappeared.

Anyone have any ideas why this would happen? All the content is original. Can anyone spot if some of our code is malformed or something that is causing Google to punish us? :-(

What is the focus of your site? I mean, we got IRA bombings on one article, adode on the other and critical illness insurance on the other.

What I am saying is I can't see a theme throughout your website

dbrooke, what keywords do you believe you deserve to rank well for?

There really wasnt a single focus. The purpose was to have a site like wikipedia, where people could write whatever they wanted about stuff.

Seems a little "off" of Google to punish for not having a single theme, but then again I guess it could happen...

Well for example, we used to come up top of "Sally Anne Bowman" because of an article on her.

Now, we're not on page 4 I think.

You have serious canonical issues with your site.

You homepage www(dot)showmoreinfo(dot)com is supplemental whereas http://showmoreinfo(dot)com is in the main index.

I'd suggest that you fix this issue with a 301 redirect.

You have 4 backlinks to your homepage out of which one is nofollowed, one link from this forum and the rest 2 are from sitepoint forums..the link is from a page which has a PR of zero and to top that there are 111 outbound links on that page.

Result - You have almost ZERO backlink power on your site.

Start an extensive links building campaign and make sure to target related high PR sites. Include your targeted keywords in your anchor text.

What you experienced might be a New Site boost which every new site experiences in Google.

Google is actually not punishing you...it just doesn't think that you deserve that ranking that you desire. That's it.

forget fixing all the canonical issues, link building, etc. Ya probably want to fix right up there first...

Why does Google hate you? Cause your site serves no purpose - it has no focus. Why would it rank you for a "site like wikipedia" when 1) there already is one and 2) your site isn't built correctly ?

Google just doin us all a service by punishing your site.

Focus on something first. Fix your site. Then be nice to Google and you'll be back up for ...something...whatever your focus ends up being...

I for one, would like to know why there's no wikipedia entry on "kettle cooked potato chips"....!

I think the absense of easy categorized navigation to all your topics are the problem. The other reason is you have not put any introduction in the home page of your site what is your site all about
