Hi.
I created a new search engine, called Orase (http://www.orase.com). Orase uses two new search technologies:
Some information about the real-time search technology of Orase:
Every search engine needs a data inventory which contains information about as much as possible pages in the Web. If a new search query starts the collected information are search by special criteria and the pages are displayed which contain the wanted information.
The most search engines, like Google, Altavista or Teoma, save these information permanently and update them about every 15 - 60 days.
Orase whereas makes use of a completely different technology: Searching the Web in real-time.
This means that Orase does not store the necessary information for a search permanently, but collects it when the search query is started. This has many advantages from the user perspective.
With these technology Orase tries to find only very good results. Please try it out: http://www.orase.com.

When I search I only get to a white page, so it' hard to judge :)

I am also getting a blank page after it loads the query. (Using IE 6 on cable speed).

As an example of post-modernist electronic expressionism I'm sure it works brilliantly.
But as a search engine I'm afraid it's not really returning anything of value, expcepting that wonderful phrase:

Seems like no data is being returned at all. Not even html, the code you see when you view source is generated by your browser...

I believe I'm using Mozilla Firefox 0.9 here.
EDIT: Whichever version of IE 6 I have installed also returns the same.

the site seems not to work with firefox. It is working with IE 6.0.

Hi,
my IE 6 is German language - the Javascript search process indicator appearing after submission on Orase.com is working, whereas it is not working on other IE 6s and my English Firefox.

Hi.
I made a silly mistake in the sourcecode of Orase.com - because of this you got some trouble using Orase (no response, only white pages).
Now, everything was corrected - so please test it and write your opinion here. Thank you.

OK, great! Now here is some feedback:
1) Resuts take too long to show. Taking into account the "real-time" effect, it is more understandable. However, some of the pages I saw on my keywords, both my competitors or us don't really change those pages much throught the year.
2) Sponsored Listings are way off the relevancy of the search query. For example, "AskMen.com - Free Travel Guides & Articles" on keyword "mexican food" . . . I wouldn't want to advertise here if my "mexican food" ad is going to shown with a "dentist supply" search query.
3) The relevancy of search results is good. The #1 SERP is kinda off, since it doesn't make #1 in the primary SEs. The rest seem to be OK.
4) Result layout, IMO, I don't need to see 10 different pages of the same website. Perhaps one is ok, but not that many.

Hi, Markus.
I did today at 11:20 am ET (local time) a search for "integrated optimization" (without the double quotes) and now is working just fine (http://www.orase.com/search/index.owp?q=integrated+optimization&ln=en&go=1)
Results:
It returned
1. 60 results.
2. many primary entries show secondary pages.
Issue 1 is not a biggie since this is a new search tool and is in beta.
Issue 2 has pro's and con's
Pro's: Users see right away information about the primary entry.
Con's: It may dilute user's interest in keep looking at the other top primary entries.
Con's: Advance search does not provide different query modes (FINDALL, EXACT, OR, etcs).
In my view:
Processing speed is fair.
Look-and-feel is good.
Interface is user's friendly.
Layout is simple and with good visual flow.
Suggestions:
I would like to see a FindSimilar link next to the primary entries, so when users click it, the entry url is dynamically appended and user is presented with a list of results. In this way the user don't need to reenter anything. With few code lines this is easy to implement.
About the real-time claims:
I don't understand this claim. If this search tool scraps repositories of web documents already indexed across the web, I don't see where is its real-time nature, except for the scrapping part. Before issuing an opinion on this I must ask for comments from Orase (Markus) and others in this sense. Markus, feel free to send me a PM.
Overall:
Considering that is in beta, I'll give Orase a little above the average score for now since is a lot better of what I've seen outthere. I wish Orase good luck. Good to see others working on search technology.

1) I think it is way to slow. I hope it gets fatser once you get over the BETA version. I would not use this at this speed :)
2) I don't get the real time aspect. What do you mean by real time?
I too think it's great that people work with new search ideas, I just don't get the idea of this one ...
'No Spam' - that's a red rag to a bull.
Interesting - again, I second the suggestion to group your results - one had 10-plus indented listings.

I hate to do a "me, too" post, but since feedback is always better in bunches let me say that Nacho nailed all 4 things I was just thinking -- even to the point of noticing that the first result was unusual, but the others made sense.

Checked a couple of keywords - good to see a search engine really agreeing with me. :)
Far too slow to process, though - make that into a 0.5 second delay and you'll have a viable product for marketing, IMO.
