What is considered the current leading PPC management tool for adwords?
In my opinion, the best PPC management tool for AdWords is a good SEM.

PPC, I fully agree, all the tools in the world wont make your campaigns sucessful. You need a good manager who understands the business, the keywords, the customers, and the market, its all hogwash............ IMO :D

I have spent 12 hours a day, for the last 7 years managing bids. It doesn't hurt using a tool in conjuction with your work. That said,what tools are currently available should one decide to use them?

For Adwords, I like Adwords Editor. It runs at lightning speed, doesn't require an internet connection (it does to post changes, but not to make changes / edit/ upload ads etc.), and it's easy to navigate. Oh, and it's free.
Using Editor in conjunction with reports run from the Adwords interface is a great way to keep on top of your bids, positions, CTRs, etc.
