*Note: Updated April 9th, 2007* Now 12 Parties!

OK - Here it is. This is the thread that I will be updating with all information that I receive regarding parties, events and gatherings for the upcoming Search Engine Strategies Conference in New York City April 10 - April 13, 2007.

If you are a search engine or vendor events coordinator and are planning an official gathering or even an informal one that you would like me to promote, then send me a PM with all of the details that you would like included. If you are an attendee and you've heard of a great event, also feel free to send me a PM and I'll look into adding it to the list.

Joe - I love that you're showing some of the "private" parties on the schedule. It's helpful to realize when a Danny Sullivan or a Joe Morin isn't hanging around the bar where exactly they might be :)

Mystery Guest and I will see you there! We get in on Saturday night and plan to do more than a bit of sightseeing around the conference.

Even though I'll have 2 hours from landing at JFK, to the start of the IM-NY party at 7 - I'll be there with bells on (and perhaps a courtesy airline pillow)!

It's a shame to see the demise of Search Engines giving back to their customers and supporters in the form of a shindig. Too many stingy accountants and money-grabbing board members probably. What ever happened to the youthful soul of these companies?

Joseph Morin
04-02-2007, 07:11 PM
Just as an FYI, I've already added three events since the official schedule went live this morning as event planners rushed to give me info (hey I've been waiting and it couldn't wait any longer)....so be sure to keep checking back here as this will be a working guide up to and even during the conference as changes are made and venues added.

I know of two more possibilities, one public and one private that I hope to get word on soon.

This is a cruel tease for those who wallow in unconnectedness...maybe the qualifications to get into the cool parties could be more tangible-like billing over a million in PPC or attaining high rankings for keywords which return over 50 million documents (where there are 3000 webpages returned for "allintitle:keyword.")

See ya' all in NYC.

Ours is a private party, but we'd definitely like to get interesting SEM people in attendance. The main reason we participate in SES is to learn about the industry we live in, so if you think you know an SEM thing or two and would like to attend, let me know.

Well... this is a bit embarrassing to say but... this is my first SES! :o Yes, 10 years in this industry and I only just made it to one... LOL. And it figures the search engines don't seem to be doing much in the way of parties anymore.

Anyway, I have no idea how to get into parties but I will be available in the evening with my beautiful fiance, Sara looking to mingle. I hope I get to hang with you guys, it will be great to put faces to all the great names in this industry! I have a ton of respect for so many!!

Any tips from anyone? I feel extremely out of touch with this whole networking thing

Cheers, Ross

Hang out in the hotel bar and you'll be sure to meet many folks in the industry. Pretty much anytime during the day there will be plenty of SEOs drinking. I think Dave Naylor is there from open to close.

You should also consider sending emails to those you're interested in meeting. Ask if there is time you can catch them in the bar to say hi and buy them a drink.

After 15 years as top sales rep, I can tell you that professional networking is not a performance. It's a listening exercise.

Rule#1
1) Don't sweat it. –We’re all buried in a computer all day too.
2) Loose the 30 second commercial! -(most last 60 seconds anyway)
3) Smile and simply say Hi. -wait for other person to say something.
4) When they say something, ask them more about it.
5) Ask more about it.
6) Ask more about them.
7) Ask more about them.

Pretty soon whoever you talk to will love YOU. They will soon believe that you are the most interesting person they have met all night. But you'll know the truth.

P.S. None of this works without the cute babe hanging off your arm. ;)

Hello every one I've been reading about the SES "Private" parties, boo hoo to those people. This is NYC man, I mean come on there are a million cool things to do. I'm from NY so i'll give you the break down.

The Following places are really hot in NYC
West 4th Street Train Stop (Village Area) check out Fat Black ***** Cat (Right Next tO McDonalds) or 1849 great drinks decent music and fabulous wings and nachos....also plenty of women.

West 23rd St You have BBQ's great food cheap prices and you can follow that up by walking over to UCB Theater. Its a comedy club on the same avenue I believe its 8th or 7th, on 26th street. www.ucbtheater.com cheap prices great laughs.

If your looking to go clubbing check out www.vipclubber.com or www.velvetlist.com Those sites will clue you in to all the open bars in various NYC clubs on different days.

Thursdays are great at the Bars Near Baruch College or at Club Pacha, as well as the infamous Copacabana on 34th St. Check it out for yourselves NYC has many places to go

ExposureTim
04-12-2007, 02:00 AM
pressp1ay - Honestly those are exactly the types of places that people like me(us?) would prefer to avoid. Maybe I'm speaking for myself, but I'm not in NY to go clubbing! especially with all these great people to connect with all concentrated in one place.

"Spot the angry man"

That has to be the worst picture ever taken of me. Out of context it is a bloody amazing image though. It looks like an old-time political rally or union speach.

To try to contextualize it, that was the "Give till it hurts speach" at the IM-NY Ronald McDonald House Foundation party. I think the shot was taken just as I was at the "I know all of you f***ers out there and I know you can afford it...", part.

Brilliant party which raised thousands for a cause that houses the families of kids with cancer in many cities. We should hold charity parties at every major event.

Ah... so now I know who that guy was!
(No offense, I don't know too many by anything other than name).

BTW - great NY-IM event guys. Good thing to do for the charity and for our community. Next time more elbow room please? I was glad to meet several folks there and later in the week.

here are some more SES pics, including a couple events: http://www.flickr.com/photos/search-evangelist

Note that this is my first Flickr album so I have not yet out it in "sets." They are pretty much all SES pics in there.

Was great seeing all of you, especially angry man. :p
