Hey,

One of the websites I run fails to have all its pages indexed by google, and i dont know why.

When I do a site:www.... search it only sais about 30% of our pages are indexed. I have a sitemap submitted and the site is seo friendly...

but the other thing is... does any one else out there think these search tools for google are dodgy? Sometimes I dont belive that these searches tell the truth. For example, I know of another site that shoes up in google searches, however when you do a site:ww... search it shows nothing up, which is false because pages are found in searches....

just dont know wether to belive google when it sais only 30% of our pages are indexed... why would some be indexed and some not? what else can i do?

There are two better ways to determine if your pages are indexed.

- Use Google Webmaster Central to get a more complete list of your pages.

- Search Google for some specific and unique content using a quoted search. For example, it donsn't look this THIS page is indexed yet. search?q=%22just+dont+know+wether+to+belive (http://www.google.com/search?q=%22just+dont+know+wether+to+belive+google +when+it+sais+only+30%25+of+our+pages+are+indexed% 22&hl=en&sourceid=gd&rls=GGLD,GGLD:2006-07,GGLD:en)

It's not practical to do that for all your pages, but at least you can try a few to get a gauge on page's not listed in a site: search.
