I've heard some talk lately about the "deep web" and while reading the material about it I couldn't help but realize that there is not one search engine that actually searches the deep web!

Although pipl.com claims to do it for "people search" there seems to be no real solution for other types of search.

Has anybody came across a deep-web search tool for a keyword based search?

I've just tried "this site" and it's actually a very good people search.

Looks like the company behind pipl.com is poogee.com and from what I see in their website I guess that other "deep search" tools should be released soon.

Its great to see growing interest in the deep web. There are lots of reasons why basic crawling and indexing doesn't reach the deep web without special methods. I think the most important one for your question is that spiders don't know how to fill in a key word search box (because they don't know what key words you would like to input). Using the deep web can best be done through real time federated search where you would use one search box that is "connected" to each deep web data base you wish to search.

Have a look at the demos on deepwebtech.com/index.php that are powered by the Explorit federated search engine. Science.gov uses the latest 4.0 release and adds powerful multi-tiered ranking, result sorting and analysis, and automatic alerts for current updates.

IMHO the problem with Science.gov that it's actually a vertical search-engine.
For me, the purpose of using a "Deep Web" search is to get more results not less.
