RSS Feeder

I really need to get with the times here. :) I have spent an hour tonight learning what rss actually is and how it could be put to good use. I always had an idea but was never really interested in it. I have come accross a few sites that I frequent daily, SEW also, that provides rss so it would make sense to make use of it.

Anyhow I have installed the latest version of <feedreader> which appears to work great. I cannot seem to find any search functionality within the application so that I could find content. Im assuming this would be part of the more popular rss feeders? If so, which feeder would be the sensible choice?

Hi there, I'm sure others who are more experienced will have their favourites - but I have been using Google Reader (to learn more about RSS) and find it very easy to use.

I'm not sure really how necessary the "Search" function is - I have been happening on (and adding) many RSS feeds of interest just through curious browsing.

Also a friend gave me his 'favourites' which I loaded (about 50 related to SEM, SEO and the like) and I find it very valuable and have added to it since.

Ideas to help you see the RSS light for SEO:

1. Add a link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" containing the URL to your RSS in the head of your html. This helps search engines go directly to deep pages.

2. Submit your RSS URL to RSS search engines. This gets more hits and brings new visitors to your site.

3. Pull your RSS through search engine readers. This shows search engines your RSS and therefore links to your content.

4. Learn more about "feedfetcher" aka the other "Googlebot".
