clicking AdSense for a living is complete rubish.
What is even more rubish is that I don't see how Google will be able to stop this sort of behaviour. This just ads another reason not to use content distribution.
The more "dirt" we see, of this kind, the more we need Google to come out strong on the issue. Google need to convince the advertisers that they are doing their very best to stop this - and that they suceed. I am not convinced so far.

Google will even try to stop anything like this.
Google Adsense is just a foolish strategy google deployed on its own profitable reason.
Google is just a search engine with no content. It cannot compete with yahoo. However, the hype is there, and adsense is the only solution.
For that reason, let's dig a hole for google a little earlier.

not trying to feul the controversy ...ok maybe a little but:
1) i have found Adsense to be unreliable. i check my logs vs. google logs and things don't "jive"
2) google is in complete control of reporting click activity, so as an site using adsense, you never really know if you are being properly compensated. as i said, my logs show i should be getting more 'adsense' clicks.
3) as an advertiser that spends tons of money on 'adwords', i would NEVER think of including content match in my advertising strategy. the "lurker" factor is increased significantly when compared to "search-only"
i love google. i appreciate it for what it is and i am humbled by its growth and brand building ...but this appreciation is not enough to make me stupid. a lot of people love google so much, they make 'cloudy' marketing decisions regarding the search property and feel as if it can do no wrong.
google is in it to make $ ...especially now that they are public. i expect more services to be released that will continue to be of much stronger benefit to google than the advertiser.
think about it: if you want more peopleto give you more money - you had better show more people that you are finding ways to turn their money into more money.
buyer beware.

A glowing recommendation from the Google AdSense Mod!!!
I have a content account set up but have not had time to play with it... this just makes me less likely to put aside the time... well if I have absolutely nothing to do....

aussiewebmaster,
yes, being mod of that group most people may expect me to be a 'evangelist'. i am a "search evangelist" and therefore study, understand and use as many products as i can handle.
if i see problems or inconsistencies, with any product or service, i am going to talk about it. that's what separates real info and hype, in my opinion.
as an example, i used to have a guy on staff that LOVED google. he had all their sticketrs and silly marketing crap they'd send us all over his desk. his vision was cloudy because of his love for the brand.
i don't want to be this person. (although, as i have said before, i do like the company and have been impressed with google branding)
cheers. thanks.

Hey it was not a knock I really do think someone stating the problems is perfect as the mod... shows lack of favor

shucks. the problem with text messages. :)
i knew you weren't "knocking the post" - i simply felt it necessary to explain a little for others that may read it too.
perhaps, new forum users can see that MODing a group means you have interest - not unconditional love.
cheers

Okay, that's about the dumbest thing that I've seen in a long time. It's no wonder lamers get kicked out of the program. Living up to your agreement aside, if G can spot you clicking on your own ads, you'd think someone would figure out that they can also pick you up clicking on a relatively equal number ads from the same pool day after day.
No telling why his revenue is off. With that work ethic, I wouldn't be surprised if his site was tanking. Maybe his site is poorly written and his ads aren't relevant to his intended content. Maybe the content area is of low interest and there is no competition for keywords or low inventory. OR.... maybe his site attracts low priced ads for small businesses, and because he spends his time figuring out ways to cheat other merchants, they've opted out of the network that he belongs in.
The guy thinks he's cheating Google, but in fact, he's only cheating small businesses out of their ad dollars. What a guy! Wouldn't it be funny if this were a Google person posing as a trap to clean out their ranks of punks and scammers. :D
