How do SEs determine the length of time a visitor stays on a website? Does the visitor have to get to the website through a search listing? Are SEs monitoring everyone's web stats? Bookmarks? Does Google draw from Google Analytics? In other words, how does an SE know that someone not only came to my website and how long he/she stayed? I assume 'duration of stays' is considered in ranking.

So if a visitor goes to a site and leaves after 30 seconds, is it because they found what they were looking for, or did they leave because the didn't find what they were looking for? Do you supposed a SE would consider a 30 second visit good, or bad?
I would not assume that duration of stay plays any part in ranking today. But I do believe that visitor behavior, in general, will become more involved in ranking as time goes on.
