I have channels broken out for the following:
Website (I have a few)
Size & location
My best varies between the leader board and one of my link units.
Now, how I've integrated them into the pages helps, but that's a different story completely. Nothing special, but it makes a difference (well, it did for me, anyway).
If it's the actual location of ads you're referring to, well, you can't go too far wrong by starting with what G themselves recommend on their heatmaps (https://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=17954) .
Sorry if I'm misinterpreted the question.

300x250 imbedded at the top of the story works for me.
