Hi everyone:

I am new to this forum and new to exploring the SEO arena. I have chosen to write my first graduate school paper on Understanding SEO, however, the I am quickly learning that the topic is very vast. I am having trouble narrowing down some specific topics within SEO for an audience of small business owners who know some HTML and want to understand SEO better.

Does a paper on just SEO and Google sound realistic??

Thanks for your input!!

Hi didjaever,

Welcome to the Forum!! :)

You're right, the world of SEO/SEM is vast. Perhaps you might have an easier time writing about one aspect of SEO/SEM, like link building, or PPC (pay-per-click) advertising and how it can benefit site owners. If you try to cover the entire subject of SEO, you'll probably end up with a book rather than a paper ;)

Personally, if I had to do the assignment, I might be inclined to write about something like Google's Adwords program and how small business owners can use it, fairly easily, to leverage sales/conversions on their sites. You can get a plethora of information about the program online. Don't forget to point out the potential risks involved with a PPC campaign!

Whatever you decide, I would suggest trying to narrow the scope of your research as it is a very broad topic to fit into one paper.

Best of luck on your project!

Thanks for your response!! I think I am going to narrow in on Google a bit more... I am loving the learning process that is going into this assignment.
