I'll be in Paris all week for SES; is anyone else going?
Je serai a Paris toute la semaine pour SES; est-ce qu'il y a d'autre gens qui y vont?

I was there on vacation for a week and about (until) a week ago. Are you staying in the La Défense area (the big business district)? Most people (on travel forums) kinda dislike this place saying it belongs more in Houston than in Paris, but I gotta say it's really one of my favorite parts of Paris.

I heard at night it is (used to be?) dangerous, but during the day it's a perfectly enjoyable and peaceful place to me...big modern buildings, the Grande Arche, benches to sit down and like a tiny park (well not really a park) to take a rest and clean...however I'm talking about the area right around the Grande Arche de la Défense.

By the way, when I was there I read they have free wireless lan connection there in the La Défense area (maybe just around the Arche?), as well as in every McDonald's in Paris (however I doubt most ppl will want to go to a McDonald's while they're in Paris ;-))

If you want to get a nice view of Paris, maybe getting to the top of the Arc de Triomphe or the Tour Montparnasse will provide you with a better view (and possibly being less exhausting than to wait in line at the Eiffel Tower)...plus you'll have the Eiffel Tower in your photos (which I think is almost a must for a view of Paris photo) which won't be the case if you take photos of Paris from it :D. I only went on top of the Tour Montparnasse when I was there last time, but (at a bit after 9 PM) there was absolutely no queue whatsoever, so it was really easy to get up there...paid the entrance fee (i think 6.50?but i got a discout still being in college)..got into the elevator...was on top of it 2 mins afterwards and could take photos and videos of the city of lights by night (however I didnt have a good enough camera ;( ).

Plus, there's a restaurant at the top of the Tour Montparnasse....cant really tell you how much it costs, but it seemed nice (and chances are it's less expensive than dining in the Eiffel Tower, as the Tour Montparnasse seems to be kind of 'underrated'/not well-known to tourists)

(However I dont wanna talk anybody out of going to the top of the Eiffel Tower, I just haven't done it so far, because I kinda dislike very crowded places and standing in line for a long time....but I'll probably do it when/if I go back)

I'm staying near Blvd St Germain; my wife will be with me and La Defense isn't her idea of a good time.

I used to work in the CNIT (the building where SES is at) back in the mid-90's. It's perfectly safe to be around the CNIT at night, but I wouldn't go far away from there after 10pm.
