View Full Version : Increase Ad Quality

I check my campaign this morning and find that 31 of my 34 keywords have been flagged as innactive. I'm told to either increase the ad quality or up the bid.
Even keywords listed in my domain as well as multiple times in my ads are being considered low quality due to lack of relevance. And because of this, I'll have to pay a higher price just to secure competitive placement.
Any advice on increasing the quality of your ads would be helpful. Would using phrase and exact match help? And also, will the name of your Ad Group contribute to the quality?

This is an ongoing issue that has received much attention over the past few months after Google changed their quality score systems. There is no "quick fix", I just try to make my ads as focused and relevent as possible, which means:
1) Focused ad copy, with keyword in headline, and body if possible.
2) Small number of very focused keywords/ad
3) Focused landing page using the keywords in the title tag and in the content, and page content that matches the sales pitch in the ad
4) If at all possible, a landing page URL that uses the keyword in the URL (but this is of course difficult to do in general.)
Also, don't forget, even if all your keywords have been inactivated on the Search network, your ad will continue to show on the Content network. I've had some situations where this has actually worked well for me.
I've never heard of the campaign name effecting ad quality and rank.

Thanks for the reply. I've broken all my keywords into much smaller ad groups and written a more targeted adverts for each. Most of the keywords I'm purchasing are used multiple times on my landing page, which is my homepage. Many of these keywords are even listed in my URL.
But I'm still seeing totally irrelevant sites ranking pages before mine, and I know these sites can't afford to be paying much more for the same traffic, especially since we're all advertising job boards and the vast majority of people coming to our sites will be job seekers taking advantage of only free services.
