View Full Version : Why do I rank great on MSN but so low on Google and Yahoo

Hi there,

I wonder if anyone could help and offer advice.

My website is www.skyewalk.co.uk
It is all original content; keywords in page titles <h1> tags and meta descriptions; 140 pages; has 300-odd backlinks - many with good anchor text etc etc.

Altogether, it should be ranking well for phrases such as 'skye walks' on Google and Yahoo. But no! - and the rankings there are falling. There are many other sites above, with very little content. What have I done wrong? Also, link:www.skyewalk.co.uk used to show a few of my backlinks but now shows - nothing.

We rank very well for all keywords on MSN, even for phrases such as 'Skye hotels' which have lots of competition and get us nowhere at all on Google & Yahoo.

My other website also does well on MSN only. What am I doing wrong? There's nothing remotely dodgy done in terms of cloaking, duplicate text, dodgy back links or anything else.

Hi,

Here is what I would say. I mean take it if it fits you.

1. Change your IP First. There are too many sites in the same IP. Get a unique Ip for your site.

2. Get links from the sites that are doing good in google.

Thanks alot for that, I've never heard before that the number of sites on an IP affects Google ranking.

Can anyone else confirm this?

ANd the next question is... is there a cheapish way to get a unique IP? (hosted in the Uk)

MSN gives your site contents a LOT more weight than Google and Yahoo. Google gives a lot weight to backlinks. In my experience, Yahoo is somewhere in between.

Showing up at the top of MSN is a good sign. The hard work ahead is link building for top ranks at Google and Yahoo.
