Every damn year, near the end of September and in October, all the new CompSci student finally get access to the labs at various universities and have learned enough to be dangerous. Either that, or they have learned how to use their brand new home computer they bought for schoolwork.

And every year at around this time (also late January and Feb) a ton of viruses, worms and hacks happen. It's like clockwork.
