Hello everyone,

I have beem thinking about implementing a meta search engine with a new twist, mainly because I'm not satisfied with current search engines and would like to improve search with a few new things. I'm not a rookie, I'm CTO at a company that operates in few countries and have implemented many quite complicated things in the past and so on so please don't stick to technical issues.

My main question for the crowd is, is it even possible to create a legal meta search engine, are TOS etc. legally binding or is it actually okay to sent automatic search requests even if they say that you shouldn't? Or are there other solutions (I'm aware of the Alexa search platform) that one could use to implement search engine without creating a web database of his own (to be honest, this is still one of the options but I wouldn't want to do it unless aboslutely neccessary).

Hope to hear your comments,
Mikko

Hi mikkom

Before you begin developing a new search engine based on META data please remember, that there are so many websites out there that implement META tags the wrong way. E.g. the content of the 'Description' and the 'Keywords' tags are identical for the entire website when they should contain unique for each page. In addition you also often find content in these two META tags that does not relate at all to the content on a page. That is some of the reasons why major search engine no longer focus on data in META tags but are looking at the actual content instead!

What I meant with a meta search is not what you are suggesting, basically I meant a search engine that submits your query to various search engines and uses an algorithm to present the results in one page.

cheers,
