I have seen this trend lately and I would like to get your opinion. Some sites I exchange links with have gotten rid of the text link on their main page to their /links folder.
Can I get rid of the link on my main page to my /links folder and continue to exchange links with people?

Link exchange does not work that well anymore. It is much better to get one-way editorial links on a real page (not a links page).

By editorial links I mean links inside page copy. For example, a link in a blog post on a relevant subject.

Thanks Superzu. The toughest links to get to stay on are the wikipedia links. Seems like someone can take ur links off at anytime. There must be a way to get links to stay there.

It doesn't look like it's in effect yet, but you should read this post on the wikipedia website about link spamming.
