Anyone hear any news from the Frankfurt Book Fair & the new ACAP protocol?

It appears to be catching on quite quickly. Entire sites are popping up to cover the big news. http://www.automatedcontentaccessprotocol.com

Danny's blog post Publisher Groups To Test New Search Engine Rights Management System (Updated) (http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/blog/060922-104102) was right on target. Seems a bunch of publisher folks who haven't quite caught on, are trying to stir things up. I've been digging around for some more news on the subject.

Maybe the publishers should have asked the experts before they planned on launching some new protocol. Hope you get a chuckle from the site....

OK, thanks for the explanation, publishers have had plans to develop their own search engine featuring exclusive content in an association with each other, this engine will exclude content from public search engines and will compete with Google.

I'll have a post on this later this week. I was on the panel where this was unveiled -- but it was long on promises, short on any specific details.

Overall, I'm behind the idea of a robots.txt 2.0 type of thing. ACAP has no specifics, but it may be that others (including SEOs) can get behind a new push and come up with some useful extensions.
