MODERATOR NOTE: This thread was split from List Groups Holding SEO Conferences & Tradeshows Here (http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/showthread.php?t=1238).

>I attended BarCon 1 in Irvine ...does that count?

Sure. If you've managed to survive that long, you deserve a beer at the Citte of Yorke.

> three professionals from this field sitting in a Denny's off of Route 66 constitutes a "conference"

That's been my experience. Some of the best let-me-talk-this-idea-through sessions are that way. The SEO events themselves are primarily for motivation and networking. I find that I don't get the time to go in-depth on the subjects I'm interested in while at the event, but I do pick up clues as to who might be in the know in that field and set up contact opportunities for use later.

re seoroadshow: We've been getting quite a few queries as to whether this is strictly a blackhat event --let's just say that we don't discriminate. We're as interested in the success of using a script to post blue pill links in blogs as we are the latest legitimate on-page seo. Either way, there's something to be learned.

re seoroadshow: We've been getting quite a few queries as to whether this is strictly a blackhat event
No doubt because the event web site says in order to attend, "If you think you should have received an invite contact any well-known *****hat and have them speak to the management."

Seriously -- what's the deal on the show. Can anyone simply turn up or do you really need to have an invite?

>If you think you should have received an invite contact any well-known *****hat

Same number of ***** for White or Black :)

>Seriously -- what's the deal on the show. Can anyone simply turn up or do you really need to have an invite?

Its an invite only event but in an inclusive way. The core invites were made initially from the organisers, initially to people they know and trust on a personal level. Those invitees can then invite others, which is what will be happening this week. Think Gmail as a model.

That way everybody who is there will have a "friend", nobody should feel left out and ultimately everybody "knows" everybody else, in a Kevin bacon kind of way.

>Can anyone simply turn up

Sure, as long as they know somebody who is there. Thats the other side of the invite coin, in some ways the inviter acts as the sponsor of their attendees and takes a certain level of responsilbilty for ensuring that everybody gets the best from the event.

Its not a conference as such, more a meeting of "friends", and in a link driven search landscape you need as many friends as you can get.

I wish seoroadshow was on a different day. :(

Looks like it will be loads of fun.

Nothing like hanging out with SEOs. This way we can have real life like boxing matches, instead of this virtual stuff. :D

Oh Danny, now you've gone and hurt my feelings by making the assumption that ***** = black. I may never get over being publicly maligned in the industry's top forum, you know how sensitive I am, hhh!

ahhhhh.....

You'll have to have one for me RC, im stuck in denmark :(

I'm not sure I'm following this thread closely enough to understand the invite procedure, but with no exhibitors I would love to attend if invited and I can work out the travel details in time. As long as I don't have to admit to being a spammer to get a free beer or something.

NFFC

I am certainly going to be there - wouldn't miss it for anything.

There is a lot to discuss at the bar, and 2 days just isn't long enough to do it in. The savvy guys arrive early and leave late ;)

Have someone tell you the story about the Islington ringing up their bar sales. Anyone who's familiar with this non-venue venue knows that the real seo/aff action takes place at the hotel. (Note 4eyes saying that he's checking in 2 days early.)

BTW, Louise & I will be there on Thursday.

No kidding! SEOroadshow is now the ONLY competitor in the "PowerPoint-Free Networking Conference" arena (and that is the only kind of conference I've ever been able to stand). ;)

I'll be there a couple of days early as well. It's well worth it.

Yes, I did get the secret handshake by email some little while ago... so I'll be there too! Madame Kalashnikov (my wife) may even venture there with me!

I think the invitation for Danny and I to stand on the bar and do our duet of Tom Jones' classic "You can keep your hat on" is well worth a trip from the States for anyone thinking aout it!

Bottom line: This will be THE event of the year. If you don't go you are a loser.

Unfortunatly I will have to classify myself as a loser on this one. Way too much on the plate right now. I tried clearing my schedule but it just couldn't happen. I will probably just spend that weekend holed up in a closet crying and feeling sorry for myself that I couldn't make it. It doesn't get any better than sitting in a bar with Mackin, RC, and NFFC (and some of the rest of you as well).

rcjordan

YEOW! Two hotels?

OK, a couple of things:

#1 - We've been getting requests to sponsor. (It should be noted that David Cecil of searchenginecommando.com was, as with the original pubconference, one of the first to show an interest in commercial support.) While we're not doing the business booth rentals, this IS a networking conference and commercial tools/scripts are more than welcome to come self-promote. However, the 'rules of engagement' are a bit different:
- Any way you can promote while "standing on the floor" is fair game. Use logo shirts, wear sandwich boards, hand out swag, etc. FINE BY US.
- Merchants/vendors should be prepared to network, NO BOOTHS, NO TABLES, you are limited to what you can carry on your person. This is hand-to-hand combat, of sorts. No advantage of upper ground.
- Merchants/vendors do NOT have to pay any fees, they DO have to add value to the SEOroadshow.

#2 - We need MORE programmers. So consider this an open call to freelance codeheads.
