I downloaded Wordpress planning on getting my own hosting for it but the way this works is it is downloaded in to a zip file and when I open it all that is there is a bunch of files. What do I do with these files.

You have to put them on your web host, and install it. You require PHP and MySQL.

Alternatively, you can opt for the wordpress blog on their domain. See wordpress.com
