Hello,

I'm a newbie to AdWord and its process. I just activated my first campaign for the UK Region about 5 mins ago. I would appreciate any help with some of the following questions:

- How long is the turnaround time before I can expect to see my AdWord?
- Do I need to specify 'pages from UK' or is 'the web' just fine to receive results accordingly?
- Should I leave keyword CPC to default or should I play around with the numbers, what is best?

As well, any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thx,

DiMorte :)

Could any of the moderator's or 'Adword' Experts give DiMorte a hand?

He's a friend of mine, and would love if he could get some expert opinions on his questions.

All the advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

No expert but..

- How long is the turnaround time before I can expect to see my AdWord?

Straight away.

- Do I need to specify 'pages from UK' or is 'the web' just fine to receive results accordingly?

The web is fine, it detects that people are "from" the UK and shows the ad to them regardless of how they access it. I'm assuming you have the campaign set to only show to UK people?

- Should I leave keyword CPC to default or should I play around with the numbers, what is best?

You need to play with it although there is a case to made for leaving it at the default level to start with.

Yes, I'm specifically targeting the UK and I thought as much about having to play with the numbers. - Thx for the feedback!

I thought that until last week.

Created a new account and campaign targeting the same words that i currently have on another account -need to have this particular campaign separate for invoicing/tax purposes, pain in the arse but..

Anyway, one week on and the new account is still only getting about 10% of the impressions as the other account, both accounts are setup identical. I have always seen pretty much instant results up until now so was surprised to get this reply from AdWords Support.

“Because no ads will run on sites in our ad network before being reviewed by our AdWords Specialists, you may notice a limited number of impressions before your ads undergo the review process. Please note that any future changes to your ad text, URL, or keywords will also return your ad to the system queue for review.“

AdWords Specialists has approved our campaign but two days later the number of impressions are still about 10% of the other account which continues to run.

The editorial group has to approve the ads before they go live.

Just a few quick notes of clarification regarding the review process. Please note that nothing mentioned here is new. The process as described is the 'same as it ever was' - at least during my two plus years with AdWords.

* Most new or edited ads/keywords will go live on Google, almost immediately, before they are reviewed.

* An exception to the above can occur when the ads/keywords are of a 'sensitive' nature. In such cases, the ads/keywords will need to be reviewed and approved before appearing on Google.

* The 'sensitive' nature of ads/keywords can vary according to world events, etc. Please be aware that some keywords may not appear at first glance to be sensitive, but in fact must be reviewed before running. As an example, keywords relating to infants, children, kids, teens, etc., may not show ads until reviewed and approved, for reasons that I hope will be evident upon reflection. Use similar reflection to determine if your keywords may be 'sensitive'.

* The review process covers the ads themselves, all the keywords, and the site(s) that the ads/keywords link to.

* It is worth noting that, if ads/keywords of a sensitive nature have been approved previously in the one's account, this does not mean that they can show without being reviewed if used again elsewhere in the same account. This is because the specific combination of ads/keywords/site must be verified, separately, in every case.

* Once ads/keywords are reviewed and approved, then they may be sent to partner sites - assuming they are appropriately positioned. When this occurs, an advertiser may notice an increase in impressions and clicks - which is the difference between showing in one place and showing in many places.

* The review process is accomplished as quickly as possible, and time-to-review varies a great deal depending on volume, and when the ads were submitted.

* Ads are reviewed on a very limited basis over the weekend. So please be aware that submitting new or edited ads/keywords late Friday night, or over the weekend, will delay the process.

* With the above in mind, if you have the choice, it is best to submit new ads mid-week rather than beginning or end of the week.

These are the Ad Review Headlines off the top of my head. I may have forgotten something, in which case I'll come back an add it. I do love that 'edit' button!
