Please note that this is pure speculation and is not from "official" sources.

The Venice Project (http://www.businessweek.com/bwdaily/dnflash/content/jul2006/db20060724_713810.htm?chan=tc&campaign_id=rss_tech) is a venture by the founders of Kazaa and Skype, offering a new multimedia platform.

Things I've been lead to believe:

The project is based around streaming encrypted HDTV quality video over a P2P style network.
Major film and TV distributors are currently involved in the project, ensuring that all top movies and television features are available (yet chargeable/sponsored).
Founders of the Apache Foundation, the HTTP protocol and encryption experts are involved in the project.
By linking a TiVo style box to your High Definition TV, TVP can offer real-time streaming of major productions with very little delay or quality loss.
A couple of well known search engines may be looking at offering commercial advertising in order to subsidise streams (similar to Google Video).
A high positioned member of Coca-Cola will be managing the marketing of TVP, with adverts being launched globally in the next couple of weeks (including on Coca-Cola products). The next technology related viral campaign you see, could be for this.
The encryption/compression technology is of such a standard that it could leave satellite and cable TV providers obsolete.

In other words, this is looking to provide On Demand HDTV at drastically reduced costs (no middleman) over an existing broadband connection.

I'm not saying these are facts, just very juicy gossip ;)
