Our directory website has been running for about 4 years and originally had a paid inclusion in Yahoo/MSN, Google was standard submit + DMOZ. We have plenty of good content and use URL rewriting and Google just loves us - 500,000 referrals P/M. However Yahoo referrals are only 36,000 and MSN a rather frightening 3,000. Yahoo shows 225,000 pages listed, Google between 100,000-400-000 (depending on its mood) and MSN only 679.
For years I just ignored Yahoo and MSN since we were getting great Google traffic, now I'm just intrigued that the results could be so different.
One thing I do notice is that Yahoo spiders us more than Google seems to and yet produces terrible results.
I recently tidied the linkage to 301 older URLS to the new rewritten ones etc, etc because Google had multiple versions of many pages and I was hoping this might help with the other engines but now I'm worrying that it might affect us with Google.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated !!
