Purchasing new domain name and redirecting? is that good?

Question 1. Purchasing 3 or 4 target keyword friendly domain name and redirecting to existing domain name. Is that good or bad search engine strategy?

Question 2. What type of redirect i have to use to redirect a new domain, is it 301/ 302 redirect or meta redirect or any other special redirect?

Please Help
