View Full Version : Apprehension towards the Google Reinclusion Request

Call it trepidation or apprehension either way lately I’ve been hearing from a few people in person and from reading the forums that webmasters are highly fearful of Google's Reinclusion Request (http://www.google.com/support/bin/request.py) .

I can relate to these feelings. Years ago I registered what I thought was the perfect domain name and pushed the limits of SEO. Some of you who read these forums like to ask about limits and I can say I’ve ventured into buying multiple domain names, hosting the same content, cross linking, keyword stuffing, link exchanging, CSS manipulation, and a little java script redirection. Hopefully you get the point.

Obviously Google got smarter and flagged all my domains including the choice one. I let the site sit for about 5-6 months thinking Google’s algorithm would change and the only thing achieved with this tactic was wasted time. My money site went from hundreds of pages indexed (all static content with nearly a 25% lead conversion) to nothing. I could not even do a site: and find my domain name.

As a webmaster we know what we have done on our sites and if we want to keep our domain name and for it to rank in Google there comes a point where we need to suck it up.

To get my site to re-rank in Google I had to completely clear off all the tactics which Google felt were bad. It was easer for me to dump the entire site and rebuild a new one from scratch.

Once I had the brand new site up and running on the existing domain name I waited a few months to see if I could get any G-love. I looked at the little page rank tool bar each day and queried for my name but nothing showed in the index.

Finally I gave in and filed for a Google Reinclusion Request. At this time, I sent Google Support an email explaining to them the errors of my ways and to show them that my site can now play nicely with the others. Within a few days I received a personal thank you letter from them informing me that they would be sending my request to engineering.

In a matter of a few weeks my domain name reappeared in Google’s index and today (about a year later) maintains a solid presence in the SERP’s.

My point with this post to all you promising webmasters is to not be scared to experiment with your sites. Just realize your options are to either pump and dump your domains when spamming to rank in well in Google or be prepared to eat crow.

It seems to me that the reinclusion request has been removed, as I cannot find it anywhere in Google Sitemaps account. Is this right, or am ilooking in the wrong place?

So, I logged back into Google Sitemaps and carefully poked around every inch of screen until I saw it…now located in the top right - you have to EXPAND the plus sign next to “tools” and it’s listed third.
