Question about adding link back ads to get free submition

I have noticed directories that let you submit free but they want a link back to there site which usually is a small ad. Does this just look line regular reciprocal links or does it create inbound links giving me link popularity?

When they say "free" with reciprocal then it's not free :). Yes this are classic reciprocal links. Also i suggest not to do any reciprocal links with this type of directories.

Add to that the fact that the text/image links also make your site look unprofessional and could cause an increase in exit traffic.

Many sites clearly give the options:
* free links
* free links with reciprocal (optional)

Try not to link the site if the PR of the site is less than yours.
