Hi Do bad links from a website affect it's rankings?
Only all the searchenginewatch links that point to search engines in New Zealand and Australia have not worked for over two years now!

Do you consider that those of us who live downunder have now need to have our own search engines?
Or are you just following the TEN Commandmants:
1. Follow Google
2. Follow Google

ETC.

I emailed you folks nearly two years ago and asked when you would update your links and lists to search engines in NZ and Australia and it has yet to be done or corrected.
How much do Google pay you to follow every word they utter??

Sorry if I sound pissed off but you are not being fair to other search engines..

Dave, where on the site are the links and lists you're talking about?

Does have anything to do with NZ or Aussie engines

I emailed you folks nearly two years ago and asked when you would update your links and lists to search engines in NZ and Australia and it has yet to be done or corrected.Dave, since you posted this here at Search Engine Watch Forums, and also said "emailed you people" I assumed that you were referring to the SEW site, which is apparently not the case.

How much do Google pay you to follow every word they utter??Sorry, but I don't understand what this whole thread has to do with SEW or with Google, either.

I suppose you have two choices - either email the webmasters of those other sites directly (it's up to them whether or not they respond or update their pages), or start a site of your own about search engines and marketing in that area.

Actually, three choices - you could volunteer to edit for an appropriate ODP category and keep the local area listings up to date that way.

I'll also refer you to this thread from about a year and a half ago:

Thanks, but those types of links after the first few in your list always show as dead with a program like Xenu. They are ad links, and show a 404 to non-human users. You would expect a site with as many articles/posts as this one has to have a few dead links.

In my opinion, which I decided to withhold until someone else initiated a response to this thread, we have no obligation to discuss anything in here that we do not want to in particular areas. If a bunch of people want to talk about a NZ site, fine with me, get talking. It looks like you could use a kinder gentler way of starting a conversation, though. And perhaps try an International section or the Padded room?

Thanks!

HI Chris, I appreciate your comments.
My web spider did find a few problems when it indexed your website but it didn't affect scores for your content.
I must admit I was a bit miffed when some folks emailed me asking why your website never mentioned NZ search engines, it seems like we don't exist at all.
My engine is only quite small we have around one hundred million web pages indexed so far but we have now started to index worldwide and had to build in various language files to enable us to form keywords in different lanaguages.
We have also now just set up a web directory because that way all the sites we have indexed now get backlinks (When before we didn't have any backlinks because we are adatabase driven) but the web directory is working well in forming back links.
From all the stats we can get we are now the largest NZ based search engine and we have indexed quite a few million Aussie webpages as well.

I apologise if I went off like a man possesed...

Hi Dave,

why your website never mentioned NZ search engines

Maybe you weren't looking in the right place?

As Elis has pointed out previously, SEW has a forum area called "Multilingual Search Markets & Non-US Engines"

http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/forumdisplay.php?f=45

It probably more that there haven't been many questions about NZ search engines - being an international forum with over 10,000 members - there aren't many Kiwis posting here.

Here was the last thread on NZ search engines I could find http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/showthread.php?t=2195

There have already been some discussions here (http://www.google.com/search?q=site:forums.searchenginewatch.com+linknz&num=50&hl=en&lr=&rls=GGLD,GGLD:2005-11,GGLD:en&filter=0).

It probably more that there haven't been many questions about NZ search engines - being an international forum with over 10,000 members - there aren't many Kiwis posting here.I'd tend to agree with that 100%.

You might also want to check your own posting history here, which is in your profile.

Dave, while we're on the topic of bad links, you've got a link in yellow (barely visible) going to a page with a marketleap tool, which is a bit out of alignment, and also has a broken image

http://www.linknz.co.nz/html/marketleap.html

There's also a warning box that pops up about the security certificate when trying to access the homepage, so you might want to check that out as well, while you're doing accessibility and usability checking today.

Hi Marcia, thanks for pointing it out but I am aware of it, I tried to contact market leap about the security cert but they failed to get back to me and we have decided to delete the entry when we next update the site which should be in a couple of days time.
We have had a few problems with our operating system, REDHAT strike would only "Look" at two gig of ram and the other week we upgraded to eight gig and the server died.. Well it couldn't see more than a gig so we have been rebuilding a new kernal for it which now seems to be working..

I have just reindexed your website and no errors came back from our spider so I am pleased that we can now send people in your direction, I have also added you to our web directory at www.linkoz.co.nz
