Day 4 of SES San Jose features a session on Local Search. As brought up at SES London this year, Google Local in the UK can be manipulated by using a virtual/forwarding address as close to the centre of a town/city/area as possible.

Do you optimise for Local Search?

Does it bring results/sales and which sites perform the best?

What techniques to you use or know of?

Is there a review of this session somewhere.

Bill Slawski has reviewed this somewhat at seobythesea. It would seem there are some quirks that are different certainly than regular G search.

I'm not aware of any, I brought up the subject with the panel rather then there being a presentation specifically on manipulation.

With Local data now appearing in main search results, I'm sure more people are starting to take interest in a number one position on Local (if tests of this feature go well, more generic location based searches will most likely start to include Google Local data).

EvilM,

I have a review of the local SEM tactics from SES NY at http://www.seroundtable.com/archives/003413.html

Hope this helps.

There is more coverage in past archives also, but that I believe is the most recent.
