Hi
Don’t know if any one can cast some light on a query I have with domain name extensions in relation to search engine rankings.
Our domain is www.exaltec.com
There is another company with the same name www.exaltec.ca
If the word “exaltec” is used as a search term they are always ranked higher.
I’m wondering at this stage does a search engine rank the same domain name but with an alphabetical criteria on the domain name extension, for instance .ca is alphabetically precedent to .com
Look forward to hearing any suggestions….

Its not the extension - more likely its because they have the word exaltec in the title of their page.

Thanks for the message young pup.
Before I changed the title to increase search engine rankings for keywords that relate to our product, the word exaltec was in the title and we still had the same issues.........

I see that you and the .ca domain are in different industries. Hopefully you are concentrating on the keywords important to your industry instead of this issue, but of course everyone likes to be #1 for their own name :)
I think that youngpup is right that it could be an "in-the title thing," not to mention that it's not in your keywords or on the page (search engine-visible) content. The .ca site does have it within their META, but not in their page content either. My suggestion is drop it into your META and get someone to professionaly optimize the page with that keyword and other more important ones.

Hi Exaltec,
I've had a very quick look.
I'd be inclined to think that the major reason is that the 'other' exaltec has a link from Dmoz with the anchor text exaltec; whereas most of your links are from within your site with the anchor text 'home'.
I'd apply for a Dmoz listing, and change your anchor text to 'Exaltec home'.
I'd also recommend either losing the links (in white text on a light gray background from the bottom of the home page); or making them visible.
You have a very professional looking site - but the white links on a light gray background just makes it look spammy.

nice catch on the links Chris D... I hadn't noticed that. The DMOZ idea is a good one too...I have been shirking in my responsibilities lately and not paying much attention to DMOZ...shame on me
