for e-commerce sites being aware of the different TYPES of people who use a particular Search Engine Over another or by default -
can tell alot about the best efforts and ROI one should expect.....

Home surfers may be more apt to use AOL

Casual Business surfers may be more apt to use MSN

Because they are DEFAULT search engines - they may attract less experience surfers - who may not be that search savy or persisitant and also may be basically satisfied with browsing the first few relevant sites - if not just the first

Google may attract the most savy and most analytical users

while Yahoo Search may be somewhere in the middle

Esoteric engines like AllTheWeb and some Meta Engines may attract more european and Tech webmasters/SEOs who may be comparing results or analyzing backwards links.

Yahoo directory and DMOZ may possibly have a higher than average percentage of "marketing" surfers who are looking for Good leads and prospects ("if they purchased a listing on Yahoo!...maybe...")

this also may explain why Google's adwords are not as competative as Overture's - especially when the Sponsor Links are "blended" in the SERPs

I doubt it is as straight forward as that.

Google may attract the most savy and most analytical users If that is true, then 90% of internet users is savt and analytical,.. I doubt that that is true,. :D

I hear 10 year old kids talking about Googling their friends.

I think most people don't have specific preference to 1 particular search engine.

You also said: this also may explain why Google's adwords are not as competative as Overture's - especially when the Sponsor Links are "blended" in the SERPs Google adwords not as competitive as Overture's? I don't understand this statement. Do you mean to say that itīs easier to get high positions in adwords than it is in overture?
