My company is looking to hire a SEO vendor to help us with our rankings on the major search engines. I was hoping to get opinions/suggestions on major SEO vendors. Has anybody used: Ave A, Icrossing, MoreVisibility, Fortune Interactive, or Did-It. Any information would be helpful, like what services did they provide and the costs.

Go to SES ... shop them out there ... just go for exhibit hall.

I know Andy Beal at Fortune Interactive. I've also happened to have been subjected to some of their work for a client and found it good and solid from a nuts-n-bolts perspective. This client's campaign was not risk-tolerant so it wasn't pushing any exploits, just good practices.

Yes, I would definitely to go the Search Engine Strategies conference.
If you want sales pitches from salespeople, then go to the exhibit hall. If you want people with actual SEO experience, then go to the after-hours events and network and ask questions of the speakers and the industry experts.
Any "Joe" can pay for exhibit hall space and hire a good sales guy. That doesn't mean that they have a lot of actual SEO experience and can handle your account the way it should be handled...find and industry expert with proven experience in this industry. And when I mention experience, the most experienced ones have at least 5 or closer to 10 years of experience in the SEO industry.

While I wholeheartedly agree that the bar is the best place to find your expert, there's still a problem. Many of the experts are now 'talking heads' for their companies and your account will be turned over to staff once under contract. You need to be aware upfront about who's actually going to be doing the daily grind.
