View Full Version : Checkout Icons vs. Rotate Ads Equally

I have had multiple ad creatives for my ad groups set to rotate equally for several months now. My ads have typically been 49% and 51%. Anyways, AdWords had been doing a good job of doing what I set it to do. On Friday we got Google Checkout to go live on our site. By the end of the day our ad groups were telling me that cart icons were active to display. The icons arent supposed to display until there is a checkout through Google. Once we got that activated, it was just a matter of time until Google began showing the cart icon in our ads. By the end of the day (roughly 6 hours later) we started to see cart icons. I come in to work this morning and check my ad groups and what do i find- the ads that have a cart icon in them display more than the ads without. Why haven't the other ads gotten the cart icon and why has the display preference been seemingly changed or ignored? I have screenshots but I am unable to post them.

OK, back again.

psurplus, in the absence of more info the consensus around here is that the ad which has no icon is simply not approved. Possible?

This would explain both the lack of icon and the smaller number of impressions - as the ad would be showing on Google alone.

In any case, a look at the account would be required to dig deeper, so I hope that you'll contact AdWords support if you haven't already. ;)

Ad creatives are now showing on a more consistent and equal basis. There are just a couple creatives now that aren't performing at an equally shared rate. Now all the creatives show the cart icon. I don't think it was that the ad werent approved because they were either A. already running and showing equally. B. new but all created at the same time. C. not being displayed correctly due to the addition of the cart icon.

AWR- thanks for the help. Do you know if there exists a better report for measuring performance of ad creatives? Especially ones with the cart icon. I know inside Analytics the report Content Optimization->Ad Version Testing-->A/B Testing will show the ads and their performance. How about only doing A/B testing per ad group to determine performance of cart icons vs non cart icon ads?
