Before I do this very often I want to know if I submit 15 articles, with all of them submitted to 5 article sites with all 15 going to each site will that create 60 back links that will help improve my link popularity. I realize this is lilely not to be enough back links to help my link popularity but want to know if this is an effective way to increase link popularity. How many back links do I need for strong link popularity if I submit articles and submit to regular directories?

The most important links are those that come from trusted neighborhoods. From my experience poking around looking at the sites that use these free articles, many of those sites are poor quality (in my estimation) and are not in neighborhoods I would want to be associated with.

It would not surprise me if those links did not count for much- if anything.

...with all of them submitted to 5 article sites with all 15 going to each site will that create 60 back links that will help improve my link popularity.....

Keep in mind that the engines are likely to drop out most of the articles as duplicate content. It's not clear that those that are dropped out are going to help your link popularity at all.

Also, in addition to not liking repeated anchor text, Google doesn't like links with descriptions that are repeated. I'm not sure what the threshold is, but Matt Cutts at SES unambiguously said that such links would be discounted.

Stretching a point... it's very likely that the duplicate text surrounding the links in your articles may effectively act as a duplicated description.

For these reasons too, these links are not liable to count for much.

I really appreciate you taking the time to respond and do it in such a clear way. I have posed this question on other article forums and no one has been as clear about answering me, if I got any response at all.

What you said makes sense, from what I have learned about linking. Setting up links using article submissions is something new I have just started, so I was not sure how to do it. Originally I wanted one-way inbound links for my site, but getting these has been difficult, as my site is new and has little traffic and no page rank, so no one wants to do this. Buying one-way links is very expensive.

Would a better way to do it be to submit one article to a number of directories or to submit one article to one directory and then another one to another directory, and so on, until all of them have been submitted that have been written. I could then write more and repeat the same process. If there is a better way to create links though article submitting please let me know.

I also have submitted my site to directories in order to create links.
Is this effective for reaching my link popularities goals or is there another way to do it that has nothing to do with submitting to directories and article sites or inbound links from other sites? Do you know of an efficient free or low cost way of getting inbound links?

I have a question. When we submit to these article directories will our links stay long in the search engines or will they be dropped after a while?
thanks

Duplicate content is definitely an issue.

The bottom line is that there are 'article directories' and there are sites where you article should appear. Consider the topic of the article and submit it or contact the editor of a news site or online publication that covers the topic. You'll get much better coverage and the article will have more "staying power" when it comes to links if it appears in a trusted resource in an industry rather than if it appears on sites that aren't trusted (as much).

Where would you rather have your "article" appear: 1000 article directories or the New York Times?

What do you mean there are sites were you article should appear.
That makes me thing there are other sites to submit articles to besides article directories. If so what kind of sites to you mean?
