Huge news for paid search practitioners, in my opinion. This research will hopefully pave the way for Search Engines to stand up and work together more closely with the SEM community to help curb click fraud.

If you have data, SEMPO would love to use it for this study. See the site for more details, and I will get some more sound bytes from the members of the BOD and the research committee that put this together. Dana should hopefully stop by with a comment or two as well. :)

Hi Chris,
Yes, we're pretty excited about the project. We have been talking with many companies and people in the SEM industry about how we might approach the click fraud issue, and we feel that Fair Isaac has a significant level of resources and expertise in detecting and preventing fraud (they are heavyweights in credit card fraud systems). They presented a formal methodology which was approved by our Research Committee and we will be supporting them by recruiting data partners from all across the Internet marketing space.

We've received inquiries and offers of data sharing from some very large organizations, companies and even other click fraud software companies. It seems like we're all on a common path to solve this issue!

We will have a "next steps" path ready for SES. If people would like to be put on a list to be notified, they can email <info@sempo.org> and reference "Click Fraud Study" in the subject line.

So actually, we don't have a page up on the site yet (we will post the program requirements online, probably during or after SES). Sorry! We are awaiting formal documentation and protocols from Fair Isaac, which are coming very shortly.

All data used will be anonymized so there should be no privacy concerns. Again, formal documentation will be coming soon. The methodology itself for the study is complete, and the resources have been allocated on the Fair Isaac side and the SEMPO Side. We have a special Task Force set up for this comprised of volunteers from the Research Committee and other committees.

The more data we have, the faster we can start finding the solution! Again, email <info@sempo.org> to be notified of the next steps for participation.

Thank you,
Dana Todd
