Does anyone have a good guideline for split testing ad copy? I currently have around 5 different ads running in each adgroup, and have it set to show the ad with highest CTR most. My question is when I write new ads, while the old ads are still running, do the new ads get proper rotation to determine the CTR? or should I choose to rotate equally until I determine if the new ads are better than the old?

I was doing just about the same thing as you describe. I changed the settings to display all ads equally. In a short amount of time they had equalled out to near the same number of impresions and % served amounts.
Since there is an Analytics report for A/B testing you can check in there for more detailed reports.

You want to allocate distinct percentages to each ad you need to create more of the particular ad.... you have five ads well equally divided they get 20% each... now if you create three of two ads, one ad twice, and two ads one time each - you have ten ads and each gets 10% if unoptimized... thus 2 ads get 30% each, one gets 20% and two others only 10% each....

Are you suggesting to do that once to test the ads? or once I have determined which ads are performing better? I don't necessarily get the motive behind creating multiple ads to increase their market share.

If you have a single ad that is doing really well you want to send a bunch of the traffic but not necessarily virtually all of it as optimizing will do.
But by manipulating the number of times the ad is listed - the exact same ad - and then having one or two others getting much less traffic - but enough to see if it has a chance to outperform the standing champ - you have a method for ongoing testing that is by your rules - say 75% stays with what works and 25% is up for testing against it......
The number of duplicated ads is just the method of manipulating the percentages of the delivery of impressions.....

I got it now. That is a nice trick to optimize ads while using "rotate." I will try that out.
