New today from Lycos. Two beta releases.

1) Discussion Search
Aggregates results from numerous discussion boards including Yahoo and MSN.

2) People Search (Rebranding of WhoWhere.com)
http://www.whowhere.com/
Aggregates phone and other sources. Includes results from Eliyon.com, a database that pulls together info about people from a variety of "open web" sources. Be careful, the data found here might not be current and complete. The link for this service is labeled as "search for professional profile." Links to fee-based "people search" services are also included.

Chris has some comments in SearchDay.

I like the idea of a discussion search... If they would greatly expand the boards being searched...

Actually... from the results, it looks like they are drawing from a number of boards. Seems like they are looking at URLs that have forum.xxxxx.xxx or boards.xxxxxx.xxx

It appears you just correctly answered your own question. :)

I'm just off the phone with Lycos and they told me that they are crawling THOUSANDS of message boards. They would not reveal the exact number.

I've also noticed that for some searches they will also cull out potentially direct links to potentially useful organizations. Note the links at the top of these results (http://discussion.lycos.com/results.asp?query=electronic+commerce&x=0&y=0&adf=) labeled "Related Organizations."
