Are there any general directories of equal/higher quality that are an alternative to DMOZ?

Thanks. :)

Dependent of the quality of your site, you might want to use these directories as additions, instead of alternatives, to DMOZ.

Meaning, fork out the dough for editorial reviews while you're waiting for DMOZ editors to get around to reviewing your site - if it does not stay in DMOZ limbo.

There some directories that offer you as good if not better link value then DMOZ. Just check the topic you will be submitted in and see if it’s cached and if it has been cached recently. DMOZ got its fame from the many clone sites that would also host your submission but now these clone sites for the most part offer little to no link value.

Submit wisely to directories and you can develop strong trusted links and save yourself a lot of time.

Here's some more information about my site - the editors at DMOZ have already rejected my site since my company has already posted a URL in their directory - DMOZ only permits one URL per listing.

So since DMOZ isn't an option, I'm looking for alternatives of equal or higher PageRank/reputation.

Thanks for your help - I'll check out the links that you've posted. :)

... DMOZ only permits one URL per listing....

I see multiple listing for one URL all over DMOZ so I do not think this is a general rule. I suppose it depends on the editor or editors you are dealing with.

Personally, I like the results I get at del.icio.us. If your goal is to find good sites in an industry/category, particularly in the tech world, del.icio.us rocks :) Not very good for link building, but that's not really the point (and it's probably one of the reasons it's generally filled with such good stuff).

It all depends on nature of the website, some historical websites are all over the place - including mine. ;)

Two websites from the same company about same thing generally no, there has to be sufficient difference otherwise everyone would create dozens of websites about the same thing and fill entire category with his links.

You can possibly avoid this by making two very different website plus offer some unique free content on each site and it could also be good idea to submit second site to some other related category.

And most importantly don't hide connection between companies or your competitor can easily report you if meta don't spot it first. ;)

Rejected? If you are already listed, then you had a suggestion approved...

As for multiple listings, editors give those to sites that have a lot of diverse content. It is almost never appropriate for a non-editor to suggest more than one related URL for a site or group of sites.
