Backlinks from sites with a low Google PageRank?

Is there any value in pursuing backlinks from sites that have low Google PageRanks?

yes there is. remember also that you are getting links from pages, not sites. Some people focus on getting a backlink from an internal page of a site that is most relevant, but may not have as good a PR as the home page. This would be an example of a method that works well, in my opinion. Try to make sure that any link you are seeking is from an indexed page. PageRank Zero may be a cause for spending a little extra time on your research...

Also, it is wise to try to target links for traffic and not just PR.

I am one of those people who tend to focus on links from sub-pages. I have been doing this for almost a year now. The major reason is in the natural web most links are coming from sub-pages. In fact, I theorize that links from sub-pages are viewed more as natural editorial votes to search engines. Especially since most SEOs are going after home page links.

Consider this. Algothrims are mostly created by individuals with advanced degrees. It would only make sense that they would incorporate something that is very familiar to them in the algothrims. That would be research papers. Where do most of the citations (links) come from in a research paper? Most are from deep within the content.

Justilien - you look for sites to link to deeper level pages on your site or you look for deeper level pages on other sites to link to your site? Just to clarify...

To clarify I was referring to getting links from sub-pages of other sites. I do check for recent cache dates.

At the same time I do get links to sub-pages of sites I work with. If I am working with a national site that has a section targeting New York, I will get New York themed links to the main New York pages.

The key is to think about how people naturally linked on the web before search engines started to place such importance on links for rankings.

Anyone else want to contribute their ideas as to what is natural linking?
