I am not able to search the forum archives to see if this question has been asked previously. As i have little time unfortunately.

But, my friend believes it is possible and there is too much made of it.

I want to believe him as he is my mentor. But, to generate traffic to your
site might there be other possibilities?

There is always natural SEO. Also, depending on the industry, some convert better in yahoo or even some of the 2nd tier engines.

I'm not a history buff, but I do believe people made money before Adwords came out...and still do!

I make xxxx.xx per month without Adwords, organic seo or any paid advertising.

So yes many people make money without spending any money.

However it should also be said I could make more money if I paid for advertising.

There is still hope with good SEO. Which is of course begs the question: After all the numerous 'best tactics for SEO'. Which is the more important requirements for establishing a good SEO for any website.

Everyone must be doing the most basic?. also submitting to Search Engines is not always to good idea to keep submitting every month or every forthnight?

Could one get banned for overdoing it?

Could one get banned for overdoing it?Over-submission doesn't seem to be a bannable offense any more unless it's done by automated software at the wrong engine, possibly because submission isn't necessary and for the most part is a complete waste of time -
not to mention a waste of money if paying for such services.

Submission isn't even part of the basics, the crawling search engines find sites through links.

I agree with submission, the only time in which I submited my site to search engines was when I set up the site in '97 and things were very different back then.

Sure, you can "make money" without AdWords!

You can become a squeegee kid, or play three-card monty for money on street corners! (By-laws willing.)

But isn't this part of the forum called "Google AdWords"?

The dream of a free lunch never dies, it seems. AdWords works, big time, for a lot of companies. And a lot of companies spend far more trying to figure out ways of getting "free" traffic than they would if they just developed a sound marketing plan that included spending some money to acquire customers.
