Those mentioned backlinks give you very little weight.
When you could offer something or write something that your competition doesn't have and promote that, that backlinks would be very usefull.
When you do that, mention to webmasters that you have some unique text or something else and that you will be very thankfull when they would refer your site.
Because that links from text and from topic related sites have the biggest weight.

First I would start by submitting to some “paid” human edited directories. I would start with sbd.bcentral.com and BOTW.org. Most of the free ones are filled with spammy sites. If you can find some “niche” or “local” directories those are great!
Next as mentioned above create something unique, truly useful or funny. This will attract higher-quality links that will pass a lot of link popularity.
Make sure to promote it after you create it! I am not talking about writing to people asking for links. Instead try asking other related sites for their input and advice. People love to give out advice. It makes them feel important and they are flattered. You will be surprised how many will link to you without even having to ask.
You might also want to use PPC and classified ads to spread the word. Also, there are plenty of inexpensive off-line marketing techniques. (Too often people forget about the offline world when building link popularity. Think like a marketer!)
Another technique is to offer a site owner something free for a review or reference. This works great with software and other intangible products that can be easily distributed with little or no cost.
Best of Luck!

hi yapyap, funny name. welcome to the forums. Justilien is as usual right on and zokki brings up a good point. you should also check out the sticky thread about link building (http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/showthread.php?t=2616) in this section of the forum, which is also where I moved your question.
Good luck in your efforts!

I agree with you all but I have my own ways, I think for long term benefit to the sites, we should opt for high quantity of links, offcourse the links should be of high quality. I also prefer to do submissions in some of the paid directories like goguide and sbd.central. We have a list of around 400 good directories in which we submit clients sites along with targeting sites for link. My concentration is always on to raise the backlinks of the sites in short duration(I have observed this is the best way of raising sites Page Rank). The effort should always be for long term benefits. Apart from this one of the best way is to target topsites backlinks for sites main keywords. Pick the common backlinks in top 10 sites and then approach for a link.
