problems with site: ?

I am curious....

Why does my homepage of my website now all of a sudden not show up when putting in:

site:www.sitename.com

but when I put:

site:sitename.com

it shows up?

I recently lost most of my pages from being indexed in Google and am hoping they come back soon, but I dont know why this problem is happening.

I do have a subfolder for my home page which is set with a 301 redirect.

so the true address to my home page is
www.sitename.com/home/index.htm


any thoughts?

You're not hallucinating. Their are huge known problems with the site: command.

great thanks.. cause last week I dropped from 80 indexed pages to 19.... and I have nothing on my site that should be considered remotely questionable.
