What's the maximum length for an editor application?

I've finally had a category picked out for months (totally interesting and NOT commercial - I don't want commercial), after spending ages trying to figure one out. I've even got the "sample sites" to submit, titles, descriptions and all - more than 3.

BUT - whenever I try to write the app it seems to turn into a thousand words, it seems like. What's the maximum acceptable length, and how much detail is needed? And what if a link to something shows part of what needs to be said, saving a lot of words - is that OK to include?

In each question that calls for a narrative answer (such as why do you want to be an editor?) 3 to 5 sentences should be plenty. 3 or 4 words would be too few.

We're interested to see your reasons and opinions and we need enough to evaluate your language skills but OTOH an editor should be able to be succinct :D .
