I received a solicitation to open an account with Kanoodle that proclaimed they were the exclusive providers of sponsored links for MSN and others.

4/17/2006 Kanoodle email:
"We can give your ads exposure on top Web sites that you can’t get with any other sponsored links provider. Kanoodle is the exclusive provider of sponsored links on MarketWatch.com, MSNBC.com, MSN, and The Wall Street Journal Online; also, Fox.com and the hit show sites like American Idol, the sites of CBS Television stations, and many more. "

After a little research I found a PR about the deal.
“As part of its relationship with MSN, Kanoodle will enable MSN Spaces users to seamlessly add sponsored links to their Space. In return, participating members will receive a percentage of revenues generated by these links. Kanoodle will provide sponsored links and manage the reporting and payment aspects for all MSN Spaces members who opt-in to the program.”

In essence this is a sponsored link program for bloggers.

We already have enough concerns over junk clicks and click fraud from simple publisher/content networks, is MSN going out on a limb here by offering up advertisers sponsored links on blogs?

Why does my gut feeling tell me this will be the highest volume, most volatile and lowest quality traffic possible?

I'm sure it depends greatly on what kind of widgets you're selling, but does blog advertising appeal to you and your business?

(I just typed a nice reply and hit a button and it was gone  )

Some people here are gung-ho about blog-vertising, due to all the blog buzz out there. I'm more skeptical. Our most recent case of junk clicks on Google came from a myspace blog. I think if you are looking for impressions and branding, without a direct response model, blogs are great due to the number of people viewing, and time spent on the sites. If however you are looking for ROI-driven traffic and conversions, I don't think blogs are the place. My $0.02 anyway.
