My company runs a large online directory of companies that provide a niche service. These niche companies pay to be included in the directory, and we have clients who purchase syndicated content to be used on their own websites.

The syndicated content is basically a scaled down version of our main site that based on the id passed in on the url is customized to show the affiliate's banner and contact info while providing a subset of the niche companies (based on category).

Since we have hundreds of these sites all using the same dynamic template, should we employ the NOINDEX to avoid duplicate content?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Perhaps a better question is "does the noindex attribute resolve duplicate content issues?"

Actually it maybe the fact you are talking of generating websites in an attempt to spam search engines..

Affiliate sites have been beaten to death in the forums...Do some research.

Who needs 100s of sites?? If you had 100s of brand name products to make sites around then it would be a good idea but this doesnt sound like what you are doing .

Also affiliate programs do not usually work as most affiliates never sell...the best thing is to find the handful that can and build them custom landing pages/ minisites.

If you've got content that would be substantially duplicated across a lot of sites, Google can usually deduce that you are the original/best location for that content. I'd recommend trying to get the NOINDEX tag on the syndicated content of those other sites, if you can.

Thanks for the advice! We actually host all the syndicated content so we have full controll over that. I'll plug it in and see.

Is there anything else that we may do to prevent any problems with this type of setup?
