i wonder please if you could help me? I work for a UK educational company.
since late feb, a number of google datacenters were/are showing an incorrect result for a search on google.co.uk for
"my-employers-company-name"
even though this is a google search engine result, the page title (my-employers-company-name) and text below the title has been clearly taken from the Open DIRECTORY listing and not from the meta tags of the homepage. Moreover, the URL of the result listed on the google search engine is incorrect i.e. www.site-which-we-are-commisioned-to-maintain.org/ instead of www.my-employers-company-name.com while Open DIRECTORY lists the correct url.
this is also the case for the listing on google's directory. Though i do note that in january, my-employers-company-name did not appear in the google directory.
i have noted that now a search on google.co.uk for
www.my-employers-company-name.com
yields Sorry, no information is available for the URL
while
site:www.my-employers-company-name.com
yields 186,000 koshres results e.g.
www.my-employers-company-name.com/sitemap/
Making me cry even more into my keyboards, is that this incorrect listing/url is now appearing on search results on other sites whose search facilities/results are provided by the google search engine database e.g.
http://search.aol.co.uk/
Google replied to my email very helpfully, indicated that this was a result of
"other sites containing the term "my-employers-company-name"... linking to this particular page (www.site-which-we-are-commisioned-to-maintain.org)"
i have gone through the results for
link:www.site-which-we-are-commisioned-to-maintain.org (512 results)
but i have not come across any incorrect links. And as google helpfully offered a possible solution i take this as an indication we have not been penalised or removed from the database. Though googles competitors use different crawler technology, all of them are showing the correct url for "my-employers-company-name"
e.g.
http://search.msn.co.uk/
http://uk.search.yahoo.com/
http://uk.ask.com/
but most importantly the open directory which openly powers the google directory (but is modified by google for the google directory) lists the correct url for hotcourses
i would be sooooo grateful for any assistance to return "my-employers-company-name" listing to the correct url of www.my-employers-company-name.com
