Just got an e-mail offer from Trillian and it got me thinking.
My question is .... what tool do you use to research your competitors for the following;
1) Linking
2) Keywords used for PPC
3) Traffic volume
and anything else..?
You feedback is greatly appreciated.

Optilink and SEO Elite are both for sale link analysis tools. I created backlink analyzer, which is similar to both and free.
hub finder is also free and useful for looking at co citation data.
I love the yahoo advvanced search page
beyond occassionally looking at link popularity I do not spend tons and tons of time on competitive research because it only shows you where someone has been, not where they are going. you cant ever pass the competition by only following their footsteps.

For traffic data Hitwise is a good tool, though they're a bit pricey for many businesses.
For PPC traffic on the competition, Trellian's competitive intelligence has that info and AdGooroo has it as well. AdGooroo has a VERY cool chart for illustrating your keywords vs. the competition. I believe Trellian is coming out with something that will tell you a domain's SEO vs. PPC data (X% is PPC and Y% is SEO).
I find agencies and consultants may not monitor the competition as much and put less value in doing so. However, for companies and in-house SEOs, it's valuable information to know what the competition is doing. It can show you how much market share you're gaining over the competition (AKA, showing the value of your SEO effort).

Though far from comprehensive, http://www.googspy.com/ does some of what you're after.
