Does anyone know if Google is purging sites from their database?

My blog (http://www.brendan-nyhan.com) was completely deleted from Google in the last few days. I went from getting several hundred incoming visitors from Google (with a number of highly rated pages) to zero. No explanation has been given. It is a strictly personal blog with no spammer tricks, etc.

The only explanation I can think of is that I had a Google sitesearch box in the left sidebar that I changed the HTML on to restrict searches to my site only (rather than having the whole Web option, which seemed pointless given that everyone knows how to use Google). Could they be punishing me for that?

I submitted the site for indexing again yesterday; nothing yet.

Any help would be appreciated...

This is a known phenomena right now. Sites are blipping in and out of Google's index. If you know you've kept your nose clean and haven't been spamming then I would sit tight.

You do show the symptoms of this; no 'site:' search information but a 'cache:' result.

There have been seo forums and seo companies effected by this and therefore drama. I would wait a week and see what happens. I certainly wouldn't panic yet.

but I just posted another post about the SERP's showing up right now and that is all spam sites with redirects and they are getting top positions so to me it seems Google is "screwed up" right now :( Thanks God for MSN or we wouldn't get any traffic at all

I'm not back in yet... Don't know what's going on, but it's frustrating.

and it is gone now, then Google probably found something wrong, that is, their algo found something wrong with the site and don't expect it to come back either :(
One of my sites disappeared and I have made several reinclusion requests but only get canned emails back telling me to review their guidelines which doesn't help me at all since I don't know where to look for any errors
I think that Google has some really big bugs in their new updated algos OR maybe this is the way the new algo works. Give everybody a chance, even spamsites. Just use another data center and you might just show up there, or not...
I think Google has visited every SEO forum and looked at what the SEO guru's say and then tried to fix the algo NOT to do what everyone thinks the algo is doing, and in doing so they let all these spam sites in and now they don't know how to stop it, so my suggestion is, go back to the old better working algo and , as far as sites, submit them to MSN. That's a better SE anyway :)
