What would be the forums role to play for SEO if creation of backlinks is not permitted? I mean to say except creation of back links how would one promote a product/site via forums?

That's true.The company uses to promote by creating signature lines and refering links back to their wesite.right?I have asked what if backlinks are not so important(may be due to SE technical change)then how would those company use forum to promote?Is creating backlinks the ultimate?

I'm not sure I understand the question either, but forums can be wonderful sources of organic traffic as well, as long as you play nice and contribute useful posts.

(Not sure this post counts on the latter. :p )
