Tell me if this is possible:

Pages linking to you with a PR0 will do little (or nothing) to boost your PR. However, if you are recipricating that link, AND if you already have a PR4, for example, you are "voting" for them - and thus, might boost their PR. Over a little time, your boost might actually get them a PR1 or PR2. Now, you have a site linking back to you with a PR1 or PR2 - and you're part of the reason they got that.

Thus, now that they have a better PR, that looks better for you (since they link to you), and your PR goes up. And again, now your link to them looks better, and their PR goes up. And yours goes up...etc.

By the same token, say my index page has a PR4. I link out to 10 other internal pages in my site with a PR0. On each of those pages, I have just a handful of links back to my index page. Thus, my PR4 index page is voting for those other pages. As soon as they get PR, they will vote for my index, boosting it more. Then my index votes back for them, etc. etc.

Is this all possible?

Somehow I think the brains behind the algorthm will have factored in this kind of thing.

That's why time is a factor too. If you don't earn new inbound links from fresh and up to date pages then you're doing much worse than pages which do.

Page rank is calculated in an iterative manner ie best initial guesses are made for page rank for all pages in the network and then the page rank formula is applied to each page in the network. Results from these calculations are used in the page rank formula again to compute the next "iteration".

This is repeated until the page rank values approach a limit which is the actual page rank values for the pages in the system.
